If you would like some help in deciding whether or not you may have a problem with alcoholism or depression please take one or both of these brief assessments:

Am I an Alcoholic (or Addict)?


Alcoholism treatment San Francisco(You may substitute the words “alcohol and drinking” with drugs or any compulsive behavior)

  • Have you ever tried to cut down or limit your drinking?
  • Do you ever feel guilty about your drinking?
  • Do you drink to build self-confidence?
  • Do others think that you have a problem with alcohol?
  • Do you drink to treat anxiety or to escape from worries?
  • Have you ever been stopped for driving while intoxicated?
  • Do you have alcoholism in your family?

Any “yes” answer may suggest a higher than average risk for having a drinking-related problem. More than one “yes” answer may indicate the presence of an alcohol-related problem and the need to consult with a psychologist or other mental health professional with expertise in alcoholism and addiction.

Am I Clinically Depressed?

  • Ongoing sadness, anxiety, and/or feelings of decreased worthDepression help in San Francisco
  • Decreased energy- feeling “slowed down”
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyed, including sex.
  • Insomnia or oversleeping
  • An increase or decrease in appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, remembering
  • Family history of depression

One or more of the above signs may indicate a clinical depression. You would probably benefit from talking with a psychologist or other mental health professional.
